Oilers vs. Panthers: Florida Takes Game 1 of Stanley Cup Final

Panthers Shut Out Oilers 3-0 in Series Opener

Game 2 Set for Monday Night in Sunrise

The Florida Panthers took the first step towards claiming the Stanley Cup on Saturday night, defeating the Edmonton Oilers 3-0 in Game 1 of the NHL Finals at the Amerant Bank Arena in Sunrise, Florida. Panthers goalie Sergei Bobrovsky was impenetrable in net, stopping all 23 shots he faced to earn the shutout.

The Panthers scored their first goal of the game on a power play in the second period, with Aleksander Barkov finding the back of the net. Just over two minutes later, Carter Verhaeghe doubled the Panthers' lead with a goal assisted by Barkov and Sam Reinhart. The Panthers added an empty-net goal in the final minute of the game to secure the victory.

The Oilers, who were making their first Stanley Cup Final appearance since 2006, failed to generate much offense against the Panthers' stingy defense. Edmonton managed just 23 shots on goal, and only eight of those came in the final two periods.

Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Final will be played on Monday night in Sunrise. The Oilers will be looking to tie the series before it shifts to Edmonton for Games 3 and 4.
